If you have question about Everest Base Camp Trek- 14 Days, please feel free to ask
Trekking in the high Himalayas of Nepal is the ultimate adventure for trekkers all around the world. 8 out of the top 14 tallest peaks in the world are in Nepal, if that does not excite trekkers we are not sure what will. Among them, Mt. Everest is undoubtedly the most famous since it is the tallest peak stretching up to the height of 29,029 ft. Being the most popular peak, it attracts a lot of visitors and admirers who do not shy away from undertaking the Everest Base Camp trek (EBC trek).
The Everest Base Camp (5364 m /17598ft) is a little settlement located at Khumbu Icefall’s base serving as a starting point for the Everest climb. Stretching for hundreds of meters over the Khumbu Glacier, this area is only accessible via a walking trail or helicopter ride. Since EBC is literally standing atop a moving glacier, you will not find any permanent housing structure; everyone up there is supposed to sleep in insulated tents.
Reaching the base of the top of the world is high enough for itself. The base camp is at an elevation of 5364 meters which makes it one of the highest trekking experiences in the world. Viewing the mighty Mt. Everest with your own eyes is definitely a once in a lifetime moment where you are in complete awe that such a thing exists.
The longer you look at it, the more you get captivated. You truly feel tiny, and your problems seem very unworthy when you stand in front of this giant peak that is mesmerizing yet intimidating at the same time. This Everest Base Camp Trek is not a challenge that you need to conquer but rather a journey to conquer yourself. It’s a testament to your will, your strong adventure sense, and your capabilities.
Many people mistake the Everest Base Camp Trek to be easy since you do not actually have to summit the Everest peak, but that is not the case. The majority of the trekkers who have been to EBC say that they underestimated how challenging this trek would be.
To clear things up, the EBC trail is not that difficult; people with no technical trekking skills can go on this trek. What makes this trip difficult is the altitude. You will be spending 2 nights above 5000 meters elevation, and above the 4000 mark, you will be able to feel the difference in air as the oxygen thins out.
The freezing temperature paired with the exhaustion of walking snow-covered trail for days is really a challenge. It’s not that the trail is difficult; it’s these small things that add up to make it a challenge for the trekkers. With that being said, let’s go over the details of our Everest Base Camp Trek package.
01
As you arrive at the International Airport of Kathmandu, our representative will greet you and take you to the already booked hotel in the capital, where you can relax a little after the flight.
After your good rest at your hotel, our guide will meet you, introduce each other, and give you a quick final briefing about your trek and explain your next-day plans to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla or from Manthali.
Then you can take a walk around the surrounding area. Dine in one of the charming restaurants of the city.
02
After having a delightful breakfast in the morning, we will make our way to the domestic airport. Our driver will pick you up from your hotel along with the guide and drop you off at the airport.
We will be traveling to Lukla by air, this will be your first step towards the Everest Base Camp Trek. This travel cost is also included in our 14 days Everest base camp trek package.
One thing to remember is the fact that even though Lukla and Kathmandu are not that far from each other, there is quite a difference in weather conditions. It could be all bright and sunny in Kathmandu but cloudy and rainy in Lukla which can delay flights. This is a recurring case since rain is more common in the Lukla region.
After we reach the Lukla airport, we will start trek to Phakding shortly after. Phakding is a beautiful little village in the Khumbu region that serves as a starting point for the 14 days Everest base camp trek route. Located at a height of 2640 meters, Phakding offers a picturesque village filled with traditional Nepalese houses and lush green hills all around.
Note: During the peak travel season of the Everest base camp trek (spring and autumn), the domestic airport at Kathmandu can become a bit too full, delaying flights, and boarding, and even completely halting everything. To tackle this problem, we will have to travel to Ramechhap and fly to Lukla from the Ramechhap airport. It will take us around 4 hours of drive to get to Ramechhap.
03
The distance from Phakding to Namche is 9 kilometers, but since we will be trekking through forests, steep trails, and suspension bridges, it will take us quite some time to work our way up there. We will pass through a number of settlements along the way before reaching our destination of Namche Bazar.
The village of Namche Bazar is the hotspot of the Khumbu region. It is truly a lovely place, full of color and with a beautiful view of the Kongde Ri peak in its backdrop. Most people are unaware of this, but Namche Bazar has an airport of its own. Located on a nearby hill overseeing the town of Namche, the Syangboche Airport is no longer operational but receives cargo from Russian helicopters every once in a while.
Namche Bazar serves as a hub for trekkers to stay the night and acclimatize themselves to the change in elevation level. The town offers many cafes with good internet facilities, restaurants, cafes, ATMs, and also pubs, which are probably the highest one of its kind and also the most remotely located one.
This town is relatively cold and has an average temperature of 3.2℃ and 6.1℃ in March and April respectively, the best time for the Everest Base Camp trek.
04
Today acclimatization day in Namche, there are plenty things to around Namche Bazaar so, you do not rest but go on short hikes or explore around Namche Bazaar and walk to visitor center, Sherpa Culture Museum to learn about Sherpa cultural and history, climbers, and the flora and wildlife of the region.
If you prefer shorter hikes, after breakfast, you will start the gentle hike up to Everest view point hotel which is around two hours away from Namche and you can see the view of Mt. Everest, Lhoste, Nupste, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde peak and other peaks with drinks and coffees.
After you take some time there, you will returning back to Namche Bazaar. Afternoon you can explore the markets, old houses and drink at the Isrish pup or Hungry Yak. The
The town offers many cafes with internet facilities, lodges, and also an Irish pub, which is probably the highest one of its kind and also the most remotely located one.
05
Today our Trek by heading to Tengboche. The trek between these two points is quite challenging Kyangjuma to Phungi Thanga keep you descending the routes and after you cross a suspension bridge gain some elevation uphill to reach Tengboche but the beautiful views and spiritualism will make up for it.
Tengboche village is actually named after the Tengboche monastery, which is the oldest and largest monastery in all of Khumbu. Among the most scenic places in the region, this village is surrounded by high Himalayas, including Lhotse, Kangtega, Thamserku, and Ama Dablam.
This village is home to many Sherpa families and has a rich cultural significance as it is one of the original villages of the Sherpa people. The village houses monasteries and traditional Sherpa homes that offer a glimpse into the lives of these mountain people. It is also a place where many devotees seek spiritual enlightenment by engaging in the local rituals.
For the time being, you can engage with the local people. They are generally friendly and will welcome you wholeheartedly. You can learn about lives in these remote regions by listening to their stories. You can also indulge in a relaxing walk surrounded by alpine trees on the Tengboche Nature Trail.
One of the most popular attractions of Tengboche is the Phunki Tenga Hot Springs, where you can take a warm dive in the refreshing waters of the natural hot spring. On the next morning, be sure to wake up early and get a glimpse of the sunrise, which is absolutely beautiful.
The average temperature range in this region is 10℃ to 15℃ during the summer season, while the average temperature range during the winter is -12℃ to -20℃. Your 6th night of the Everest base camp trek will be spent in Tengboche.
06
This is another best place to wake up early in the morning with the spectacular view of mountains surrounding you. Leaving the Tengboche village behind, you first descend the trails into the forest while passing the small town of Deboche. This village is another option to stay overnight while trekking in the Everest region.
Along the way, Mt. Amadablam will be smiling on our right side. We will pass through Imja River, chortens, stupas, Pangboche villages, tea houses, and people working on their farms. Pretty much easier trail, and after crossing Pheriche pass, a gentle uphill, which makes you feel like now you are adjusting to the altitude.
Dingboche is actually the last Sherpa village in the Khumbu region; moving forward, we will not find any other Sherpa village in the Khumbu region. Only a couple hundred people live in this village. Most of the people in the region rely on tourism as their main source of income.
Dingboche is a popular acclimatization spot for trekkers and is open to travelers all year round. However, during the winter season, heavy snowfall can make it too cold for some people to bear. Especially those that are rarely exposed to cold temperatures.
This village offers a great view of multiple peaks, including Lhotse, Tawache, Island Peak, Pumori, and Ama Dablam. You will not be able to see Mt. Everest from this village. The village also has a helipad, and you can choose to travel by helicopter directly to this village if you want to.
We will be staying at Dingboche for the night and the following day.

The trials take you up to a wide valley for a few hours, and you can see the small yet beautiful town of Dughla on the other side of the river. The path leads to the place by crossing through the bridge.
The trails from here onwards are tricky as you will be climbing zigzag to Dughla Pass, on the top where you can see the many memorials with praying flags and stones with small stupas known as ‘Mane’ in remembrance of climbers and sherpas who passed way during the Everest Expeditions.
You will then arrive at the path that connects Gokyo Lake and Cho-La Pass. You can get beautiful views of peaks like Khumbuste (6,636 m), Lingtren (6,749 m), and Pumori (7,161 m), then following the steam, you enter Lobuche village.

This is going to be the finest day of your 14-day Everest Base Camp trek, when you will visit the significant highlight of this trek, ‘Everest Base Camp.’. Before reaching EBC, you hike to Gorakshep first; it will take between 2 and 3 hours, which is closest to EBC itself, the last and highest village on this trail.
While walking on the way, the board valley that lies parallel to the Khumbu Glacier with the rocky path. As you keep moving up, the views of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nupste, and other peaks will appear, and you will reach Gorekshep and stop for lunch, drop your bag at the lodge, and then begin your trek to Everest Base Camp. Or if you feel like extending your stay in Nepal, we will be more than happy to help you plan and arrange your other activities.
Your trip starts when you arrive at the Kathmandu International Airport (TIA).
As you arrive at the International Airport of Kathmandu, our representative will greet you and take you to the already booked hotel in the capital. You will check into your hotel, and you can relax a little after your long flight.
After you check in your hotel and the good restOur guide will instruct you on a few things and brief you on the trail we are about to undertake. If you have any questions regarding the trek, this is the best time to get it out.
Our guides will answer your queries to the best of their abilities and they will also introduce you to the porters and assistant guide if needed. If your group has 6 members max, one assistant guide along with a main guide should be enough while a group of 8 or more members requires 2 assistant guides. This is to ensure that everyone is safe and everyone gets enough attentive guidance all the way through the Everest Base Camp Trek.
As for porters, every 2 members will have one shared porter. He will be responsible for carrying your luggage and essentials all the way to the top.
The Everest Base Camp Trek is definitely a moderate trek as it takes quite the endurance to complete this trek. The trial is nowhere near a difficult one but the thing that makes it hard is the consistent effort you have to put in every day. Little inconveniences and difficulties add up in this long trek which makes it difficult.
In addition to that, once you reach the 5000-meter level, you can feel the lack of oxygen in the air. You start getting tired faster as the air lacks oxygen and your body breathes more frequently to make up for it. On a difficulty scale of 1 to 10, we would rate the Everest Base Camp Trek a solid 7.5.
The best season to travel the EBC trekking is definitely the spring season, the months of March, April, and May. During this time, the skies are generally clearer, which means you will be able to enjoy the clear view of the vistas.
The autumn season is also another best season to travel this route for all the same reasons as previously stated. You should avoid the Everest Base Camp Trek in winter, as it will get really cold in higher villages, plus the heavy snowfall will make the trek even more difficult. Heavy snowfall piles up soft snow on the trail, which reduces your momentum.
Yes, a beginner can join this trip, but they will have to train for endurance beforehand. Since the trail is not technically challenging, a beginner can go through them easily.
But keep in mind that, you will have to have quite some endurance to get on the Everest Base Camp Trek. Most of the people on our EBC trekking journey are not seasoned trekkers, but they make it to the Everest Base Camp as they are physically and mentally well-prepared.
Altitude Sickness in the 5000-meter range is not as common as most people think; it is a fact that the oxygen gets thinner in this elevation but keeping yourself well hydrated should be enough to save yourself from developing any complications.
One of the main things that cause altitude sickness is not the altitude but lack of acclimatization, which is why we will be stopping by certain hotspots, letting our bodies adjust to the local temperature and air.
The Everest Base Camp trekking route is the most developed Himalayan trekking region in all of Nepal. Unlike most Himalayan trekking routes in Nepal, you will be able to find luxury and standard hotels. Hospitality in this region is much better compared to most remote trekking routes, and you will be able to enjoy hot showers all the way through.
We will be staying in lodges most of the nights that are owned by the locals of the Khumbu region. This helps the local people upgrade their businesses and their living standards as well.
Food in this region is better than most trekking trails, as the Khumbu region is quite developed to cater to the needs of the mass trekkers. However, since we will be traveling through multiple villages of the Sherpas, why not try some of their traditional dishes? If you like it enough, you can have it to your heart’s content till the end of the trek.
There are luxury hotels in the region, so you are always able to opt for something exotic, or maybe you might find a dish from your country. We will be in charge of arranging meals throughout the trek, and those meals will be covered by our EBC trekking package except for your meals in Kathmandu.
As for the drinks, we will not be responsible for all your drinking expenses. Be sure to carry enough water throughout the trek since keeping yourself hydrated is the most important thing to do.
All the land transportation you will require during the 14 days Everest base camp trek will be covered by your EBC trekking package. We will be responsible for transporting you to the necessary places.
Our driver will pick you up from the airport and drive you to the domestic airport of Kathmandu or Ramechhap, depending on the availability of flights, and he will drop you off at the airport at the end of the trek. We will also cover your domestic flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and back.

Most trekking destinations in Nepal require travelers to have a Trekkers’ Information Management Systems card along with the permit of the local region but since 2018, the Everest region does not require one.
All the required permits will be covered by the 14 days Everest base camp trek package. These permits are necessary for the development of the region.
According to statistics, 70% of people make it to the base camp while only 50% make it to the viewpoint in Kala Patthar. This should give you an idea of how well you need to prepare your physicality for the 14 days Everest base camp trek.
You do not need to have technical trekking skills but rather an impressive amount of stamina to battle the low-oxygen air and tiring snow-covered trails. If you are in good shape, it will be a lot easier to go through this trek compared to someone who is not.
Our guides will be there to assist you if you need a bit of push sometimes and they will make sure that you travel the easiest trail with the proper technique to tackle the soft snow.
The most popular alternative route is the Everest Gokyo Lake trek. This route will take you to Gokyo Lake (4800 m) skipping our stops at Tengboche, Pangboche, and Dingboche.
Another popular alternative route is the Gokyo Renjo La Pass trek, which is a best destination, But it is preferred by those who want to experience a less crowded path to Everest Base Camp Trek.
Our 14 days Everest base camp trek package will cost you USD. 1285. Our pricing is fair and transparent; you will be provided with a detailed list of the cost upon request. Unlike most Himalayan trekking routes in Nepal, you will be able to access a mobile phone network throughout the trail. However, the strength of the network connection will depend on the altitude, and some places might not have a network connection at all.
Your extra expenses include the tips that you might give to the porters and guides, your visa fees, international flight fares, emergency services expenses (rare case), hot shower, wifi bill, gadget charging bill, and travel insurance expense.
